Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) PDF Print

Corporate Social Responsibility has long been a fundamental value of the business operations of Cehave Landbouwbelang. Sustainable enterprise is one of our core values and forms an integral part of our business operations.

In 2008, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) acquired a formal position within the organisation when Cehave Landbouwbelang appointed a CSR Director and formulated a policy for the period 2009 – 2011 CSR Policy 2009-2011_Web.pdf.

This document sets out the objectives and measures relating to corporate social responsibility for Cehave Landbouwbelang. It also includes instructions for reporting and testing.

Vision of sustainability High yield and improved sustainability are, in the vision of Cehave Landbouwbelang, by no means mutually exclusive ambitions.  In fact, innovations can contribute both to sustainability and to farm output. By continuing to pursue this strategy, Cehave Landbouwbelang strives to make further advances on the road towards sustainability. In doing so, the company will concentrate its attention on those parts of the production chain on which it can exert a direct influence.

Cehave Landbouwbelang has in the year under review worked to achieve greater involvement in sustainability among various parties, including employees, customers, and members, chain partners and government authorities.

Planet: sustainable use of the land   Cehave Landbouwbelang has explicitly chosen for a strategy in which its core activities and competencies contribute towards sustainability. That means that Cehave Landbouwbelang primarily seeks solutions rooted in its own strengths: processing of raw materials and rest flows into efficient and sustainable feed concepts. As Cehave Landbouwbelang is active in a large number of countries, global sustainability themes – like climate control and land use – are central to its policy. Additionally, the company seeks to find solutions to local issues in those areas where Cehave Landbouwbelang is established.

KPIs  Insight into the effects of one’s own behaviour is essential to progress. This also applies to Corporate Social Responsibility. Cehave Landbouwbelang therefore started working with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in 2009.

Cehave Landbouwbelang currently applies the KPIs below.

  1. Land use;
  2. Feed miles;
  3. The percentage of co-products;
  4. The percentage of renewable energy.

The first KPI results are included in the Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2009 of Cehave Landbouwbelang.

 People: sustainable relationships   Cehave Landbouwbelang wants to be an attractive employee to all its employees. The company offers its personnel a package of employment conditions that is at least in line with market standards, alongside additional facilities for development through training, coaching and further support. Moreover, Cehave Landbouwbelang stimulates enterprising and innovative behaviour by its employees.  Cehave Landbouwbelang sets great store by a sound reputation. Every single employee bears responsibility for maintaining the standards and values applicable within the company. Cehave Landbouwbelang has its own guidelines for doing business in an ethical manner. These reflect not only the legislation and regulations applicable, but are also based on integrity, sustainability, entrepreneurship, professionalism, customer orientation and teamwork Business Ethics Code.pdf.

In 2006, the enterprise introduced a whistleblower scheme, which is applicable to its Dutch subsidiaries and has the approval of the Central Works Council. The scheme is designed to protect employees who wish to bring to light any wrongdoings within the enterprise Whistleblower Scheme.pdf.

Cehave Landbouwbelang is serious about employee participation. Management and works councils work together in a constructive manner. Reflecting the ongoing internationalisation of the company, Cehave Landbouwbelang established a European Works Council in 2009.

Cehave Landbouwbelang also assumes responsibilityfor its environment. The company maintains structural contact with its stakeholders and takes action where necessary.

Profit: profitable sustainability    Cehave Landbouwbelang is convinced that profit for planet and people should go hand-in-hand with financial benefit. A financially sound enterprise - and a financially healthy farm - are preconditions for a sustainable future. That also means, for example, that Cehave Landbouwbelang will not unilaterally scrap certain raw materials from its feed concepts. One may, nevertheless, expect Cehave Landbouwbelang to be actively involved in the development of alternative strategies.
